Last night my Facebook account was suspended due to suspicious activity. A quick search suggested that switching between multiple browsers can trigger a lockout, something most small business owners would never think to worry about.
I was fine about it, honestly. Until I realised The Baby Cot Shop account was affected too.
For many of us, platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are not just business tools. They are woven into daily life. School notices, family group chats, playdates, keeping up with people you love who live far away. Losing access, even temporarily, is not a small thing.
Maya Angelou once said you can tell a lot about a person by how they handle three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I would like to add a fourth: getting locked out of their Facebook account.
The frustration was real. Still is. But I know my own mind well enough to know that it will run wild if I let it. So instead of dwelling on the ripple effects, 20,000 combined followers suddenly unable to reach us without warning, I chose differently.
I took deep breaths. I said a prayer. I was tempted to skip my morning exercise, but routines are the guardrails of our lives and I was not about to let a Meta algorithm take mine. I showed up anyway. If this had happened last year, the story would have been very different. 😄
What this experience reminded me, and what I want to pass on to you:
Own your communication channels. Email lists, saved contacts, direct relationships. These belong to you. Social media does not.
Build offline resilience. Schedules, phone numbers, school contacts. Do not let them live only inside an app.
Prepare for disruption. Not with anxiety, but with intention. What would you do if one of these platforms disappeared tomorrow, even for a week?
We are working to restore full access and will keep you updated. In the meantime, we are here at [email protected] and on 020 3375 1483.
And yes, I am still calm. 😄
