One Month in Harrods - What I’ve Learned So Far

We’ve just passed the one-month mark in Harrods. And it’s been nothing like I imagined.

One thing I’ve learnt about new seasons is that no matter how clearly you visualise them, reality always shows up a little differently. Not worse. Not better. Just… different. And how we interpret that difference is what truly shapes our experience.

Launching our concession in Harrods has been nothing like I imagined — and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s been a steep learning curve, a whirlwind of insight, and an incredible adventure. We’re learning how Harrods operates, what their clientele value, and how a world-renowned retail engine works behind the scenes. Through it all, we’ve received an unbelievably warm welcome.

Team members from different departments often stop by just to say hello. Guests discover us by chance, return with friends, or linger to share how much they love our space. It’s been beautiful.

This past month, one question has come up more than any other:

“How did you get into Harrods?”

The short answer? We were invited. The longer answer? That invitation was years in the making.

It began with a single bespoke chest of drawers and learning, through trial and error, the intricacies of British craftsmanship.

It continued when I sourced our first luxury baby bedding collection and studied thread counts like a sommelier studies vintage.

It evolved when I taught myself about wood types — and why pine would never meet the standards of our clientele. Today, we only produce exclusively solid wood baby cots.

It deepened when we served our first royal family from the Middle East — and I learned the true meaning of cultural sensitivity, discretion, and protocol.

It took shape when we rebranded The Baby Cot Shop in 2021, grounding our identity in what we were truly offering: timeless design, unmatched service, and an address to match — Chelsea’s King’s Road.

And it was sealed when I decided that authenticity, a personal value I hold deeply, would become the guiding principle of our business. That meant every decision- from the materials we use to the people we hire- had to reflect care, kindness, and quiet excellence.

Being in Harrods is an honour. Every decision, lesson, mistake, and win along the way counted for something.

Here’s to the journey. And to every founder preparing for an opportunity that will one day look like it happened overnight.

To every founder preparing for an opportunity that will one day look like it happened overnight — keep going.
