In November, The Baby Cot Shop began a partnership with the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare Private Care. In this feature, our founder, Toks Aruoture, offers insights into the vision behind the collaboration and the design considerations that shaped the beautifully refurbished deluxe rooms at one of the world's most respected private maternity units.
An Idea Rooted in Shared Purpose
The partnership began with a simple but meaningful conversation between Toks and a member of the Lindo Wing’s team. As she explains, many hospital rooms are often neutral and entirely functional. For a place where families experience some of life’s most profound moments, Toks believed there was room to introduce surroundings that felt more nurturing.
At The Baby Cot Shop, our philosophy has always centred on creating interiors that support a child’s wellbeing. We believe in spaces that feel serene and beautiful, spaces that help newborns settle and parents feel grounded. When the conversation arose with the Lindo Wing, it became clear that this was the ideal environment in which to extend that vision.
"We believe at The Baby Cot Shop that a child should live in a space that is inspiring to them, one that stimulates their senses, one that's calm and serene, and many hospitals prioritise a clinical environment. We wanted to work with the Lindo Wing to add an extra layer of luxury and comfort."
A Natural Alignment of Values
For Toks, the decision to partner with the Lindo Wing was an easy one. Both organisations place exceptional value on care, comfort, and uncompromising quality. The Baby Cot Shop is known for handcrafted nursery furniture made to the highest standards, and the Lindo Wing is known for delivering excwptional care throughout pregnancy and birth. With such a strong alignment in ethos, the partnership felt like a natural union built on a shared commitment to excellence.
"Our values are similar. We have a shared commitment to making sure that our clients are comfortable and have the absolute best when it comes to service or products, and so we were a natural partner for them."

Bringing the Vision to Life
Developing interiors for a private maternity wing requires thoughtful adaptation. Although The Baby Cot Shop regularly designs luxury nursery spaces for private homes, public healthcare environments have their own requirements. Fire safety standards differ. Materials must be both strong and hygienic. Soft furnishings need to be wipeable, durable, and suitable for frequent professional cleaning.
Toks explains that certain pieces were re-engineered with these needs in mind. The Salome glider, normally upholstered in fabric, was made in vegan leather for this project to ensure suitability for a clinical setting. Wallpapers had to be wipeable and able to withstand stronger cleaning products. The installation process also required careful planning to ensure that there was no disruption to families receiving care at the Wing. Every detail was approached with precision and respect for the hospital environment.

Enhancing the Family Experience at the Lindo Wing
As Toks reflects, families who choose the Lindo Wing arrive with high expectations. They anticipate exceptional clinical care, privacy, and surroundings that reflect the prestige of the institution. By bringing our design philosophy to selected rooms, we hope to enrich the welcoming atmosphere that the Lindo Wing is known for, supporting families at every step of their journey.
"The Lindo Wing is a renowned hospital...people walk into the rooms that we designed and they feel a sense of serenity and elegance."
The collaboration is not only about aesthetics. It is about the emotional atmosphere that well-designed interiors can create, particularly during the life-changing experience of welcoming a new baby. Thoughtful design offers families at the Lindo Wing an elevated experience from the moment they arrive.
