April Was One Eccentric Teacher- Lessons on letting go

I didn't ask April for revelations. But it showed up with an armful.

Just because I don’t understand how God is working through a problem doesn’t mean something sinister has a hold on me instead.

In the month of April, I let go of the need to understand every abnormality in my life. I learned that discontentment lives in the space between what you expect to have and what you actually have.

Notice I didn’t say what you want and what you have. It’s the expectation that causes the ache; the belief that by now, you should have arrived at a certain point. That gap is where fear grows.

I also learned that the refusal to let go and flow with life keeps you tethered as you hack away at a mound that you were meant to walk around and leave behind. That refusal is fuelled by the belief that the mound should never have been there to begin with.

There are over 7 billion people on earth. No two share the same fingerprint or dentition. So why do we expect that our path should be a previously travelled and documented one?

Most of the time, our suffering isn’t caused by external circumstances. It is the result of forcing our circumstances to align with our expectations.

As we enter the month of May, can I gently ask that you loosen your grip on what you can’t control?

Start by giving a positive meaning to what looks like a negative circumstance.

🥳Well done. We made it to the end of April.
