A Moses Basket is a portable first bed for your baby and can be used until your munchkin is 3 to 4 months old or weigh around 9kg. Moses Baskets are made from palm, wicker, or cotton and come with a firm mattress, fitted sheet and dressing. You don't need to place anything else in your Moses Basket as it is perfect for them as a first bed, just as it comes. Opt for a Moses Basket Stand to keep the basket elevated. Many parents choose this as an option for the newborn baby because of the ease of moving it around. Simply lift up the basket by the handles, add a hand underneath for support and transport from room to room. The Moses Basket Bedding can be easily removed for washing; to learn more about baby cribs, read our expert guide on how to choose your baby's crib.
Our in-house collection is crafted from sustainably sourced solid wood and finished by hand.

A note from Toks
“When I think about what makes a moses basket truly exceptional, it is never just one thing.”
It is the weight of the wood. The way the finish holds its colour over years of use. The proportion of the headboard against the wall it sits against. The hardware that a child will touch every morning for the first three years of their life. Every cot bed in this collection has been chosen or designed because it meets that standard. Made to order, configured to your space, built to last well beyond the nursery years. That is the only standard I have ever worked to.

What is a Moses basket and how long can my baby use one?
+
A Moses basket is a portable, handwoven first bed designed for newborns. It provides a snug, enclosed sleeping space that most babies find deeply settling in those earliest weeks. Babies can use a Moses basket from birth until they are around three to four months old, or until they begin to roll or push themselves up — whichever comes first. At that point, a crib or cot becomes the appropriate next step. The NHS recommends that babies sleep in the same room as their parents for the first six months; a Moses basket is the ideal companion for those first months of closeness.
What Moses baskets do you carry?
+
Our collection includes four styles from our own BCS in-house range — the Diamond Piqué, Grace Rose, Carolina and Simply Linen — each handwoven from natural palm and dressed in OEKO-TEX® certified cotton. We also carry the Notte Fatata Moses Basket by Savio Firmino, handcrafted in Florence and available in ecru, pink and light blue. Every basket comes fully dressed, including a mattress, fitted sheet and linens. Stand options are available separately for BCS Collection pieces; the Notte Fatata comes with its own hand-carved stand on wheels.
Are the materials safe for my newborn?
+
Yes. All fabrics across the collection are OEKO-TEX® certified, meaning they have been independently tested and confirmed free from harmful substances. The basket structures are handwoven from natural palm — a breathable, flexible material that is gentle against skin. Every basket includes a firm mattress sized precisely for the basket, in line with safe sleep guidance. The decorative quilts and pillows included with some styles are for presentation only and should not be used to cover your baby while sleeping.
What is the difference between the BCS Collection baskets and the Notte Fatata?
+
The BCS Collection baskets — Diamond Piqué, Grace Rose, Carolina and Simply Linen — are our in-house range, crafted in our European workrooms to a 4–6 week lead time. Each has its own character: the Diamond Piqué is our signature piece, available in four colourways; the Grace Rose is the most romantic, with frilled blush detailing; the Carolina is a classic palm basket in clean cotton; and the Simply Linen is the most understated, dressed in soft taupe linen. The Notte Fatata is in a different category entirely — handcrafted in Italy by Savio Firmino, it carries a 12–16 week lead time and comes with its own hand-carved stand. It is a statement piece and priced accordingly.
Do the Moses baskets come with a stand?
+
Stands are available separately for all BCS Collection Moses baskets. The Notte Fatata by Savio Firmino comes with its own hand-carved stand on wheels as standard. We recommend visiting our Chelsea boutique or contacting us directly to ensure the right stand pairing for your basket, as stands are designed for specific baskets and not universally interchangeable.
How do I care for my Moses basket?
+
The linens from all our Moses baskets are fully washable on a gentle cycle in a washing machine. We do not recommend purchasing third-party replacement bedding, as each basket is made individually by hand and the bedding is fitted to that specific basket — off-the-shelf replacements may not fit correctly. For the basket structure itself, a light brush or damp cloth is sufficient to remove any dust or debris.
Can I see the Moses baskets in person before buying?
+
Yes, and we would always encourage it. Selected pieces are available to view at our flagship boutique on the King's Road, Chelsea, and at our permanent concession at Harrods, Knightsbridge. There is no substitute for seeing and holding a basket in person, particularly when you are deciding between styles. Both locations offer private nursery consultations, and our team can guide you through stand options, fabric samples and coordinating nursery pieces.
Do you deliver internationally?
+
Yes. We deliver to clients globally, including across Europe and the Middle East. Shipping costs for international orders are calculated after the order is placed, and you will receive a quote before your order is processed. Contact us directly at [email protected] or call +44 203 371 7530 to discuss delivery to your location and any associated lead times.
