Nursery Design Secrets

Everything You Need to Know About the Ornate Nursery Trend

Nowadays, luxurious and charming décor come to mind when designing your baby’s nursery. After all, it’s their first little resting nest and you want to make it extra special. And it’s safe to say there are three main trendsetters who have led the way in ornate nurseries (past and present). Here’s the lowdown…
The Victorians
Luxury Dollhouse Wardrobe
You may not have thought about it, but if you opt for an extravagant nursery, you’ll be paying homage to The Victorian Era. That’s right, we’re certainly not the generation who started this trend - it all started back in the 19th century when lavish nurseries were the norm. As children would spend most of their time in the nursery accompanied by their nannies, they became playrooms too – which is why dollhouses, rocking horses and traditional toys all became popular. The décor? Opulent rugs, velvet fabrics, ornate gold furnishings and dark wooden panelling – most of which have inspired trends today. Fun fact: The Victorians loved overstuffed chairs, just like our Salome Nursery Glider nursing chair. Inject some Victorian vibes into your little one’s nursery with a modern twist, thanks to the First Rocking Lamb in Grey and Dollhouse Wardrobe by Notte Fatata from The Baby Cot Shop.
The Royal Family
Royal Round Crib
The Royal Family are, and always have been, the epitome of elegance. And they stay true to this when it comes to treating their own Prince or Princess to a traditional nursery. Whilst they may keep a lot of things private, ornate nurseries run in the family. It’s known that when Queen Elizabeth II moved from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace, she had her children’s nursery recreated – of course, the toy soldiers, cuckoo clock and dollhouse were moved over too. More recently on our radar, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank (who are expecting their first child in early 2021) have announced that they will bring up their baby at Ivy Cottage within Kensington Palace, so we’re pretty certain baby Brooksbank’s nursery will be extremely ornate. Little darling on the way? Do like the Royals and opt for The Queen Anne Round Crib from The Baby Cot Shop.
Celebrity mums
Luxury Hot Air Balloon Bed
Celebrities sure know a thing (or ten) about creating a nursery. For many reality TV stars and influencers, sharing their nursery snaps and sweet décor on social media can spark a trend within minutes. Newsflash: through our mum goggles, we’ve spotted some adorably ornate nurseries. For ultimate luxury, Lydia Bright from The Only Way is Essex scores top marks – her daughter Loretta’s nursery features a pink crushed velvet cot and a matching ball pit. Also (an oldie but a goodie), we were starry-eyed over Rochelle Humes’ daughter Valentina’s nursery, which she designed herself – and still can’t get over her cot surrounded by couture-style ribbons. Divine! Style your baby’s nursery like a celebrity and add the wow factor with the Fantasy Hot Air Balloon Bed from The Baby Cot Shop. Up, up and away!
