How to use Pantone's Viva Magenta in the Nursery Room

Pantone released 2023's colour of the year and we are so excited to share how to use Viva Magenta in your nursery design. Here is how they have described it:
"Pantone’s Color of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.

You will agree that this rich hue will be certain to bring a fresh and happy vibe into our homes however, it is a bit too strong to form the main colours in the nursery. Our nursery interior designers share their secrets to still having Viva Magenta in the nursery, without overpowering your little one's space.

Use Viva Magenta as an accent wall colour:

Hot Air Balloon Wallpaper Manuel Canovas

Painting one wall in the nursery with Viva Magenta can add a bold and vibrant touch to the room, this will work in the playroom, but not the nursery. For the nursery we suggest having a wall mural applied by our in-house artist and there she will creatively throw in bits of Viva Magenta. That way you are not shouting from the rooftops that you are on trend. You can pair it with neutral colors such as white or beige on the other walls to balance out the boldness of the color. Another option for an instant transformation is to use nursery wallpaper like L'envol by Manuel Canovas.

Incorporate Viva Magenta through bed linen

Adding Viva Magenta through bedding and linens such as blankets, sheets, and pillows can bring a pop of color to the nursery. We recommend Willow Nursery linens with a trim in Viva Magenta. Our partner supplier for all things trims is Samuel and Sons and we use the beautiful trims in our linens, curtains and blinds and even on our upholstery. You can also mix and match with other colors to create a more cohesive and stylish look.

Use Viva Magenta as an accent color in decor:

Adding small accents of Viva Magenta in the form of decorative items such as throw pillows, artwork, or vases can bring a touch of the color to the nursery without overwhelming the space.

Use Viva Magenta in storage solutions:

Incorporating Viva Magenta in storage solutions such as baskets, bins, or shelves can add a touch of color to the room while also being functional. The smallest details matter and having your child's name, or an inspiring phrase embroidered or painted on your nursery accessories will be sure to bring out the vibrancy of the colour. Again we think this works well against a white or cream background, but we can also see it popping with green.

Add Viva Magenta through plants:

Bringing plants into the nursery can not only add some life to the space, but also bring a touch of Viva Magenta through foliage or flowers. You can choose plants with deep magenta or pink tones to incorporate the colour into the room. When it comes to plants in the nursery, make sure they are positioned out of your little ones reach- we know how curious toddlers are.

Do you plan on using Viva Magenta in your home? Our interior designers are always on hand to advise you, get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
