London Playroom Design: Paddington Bear

Every design story is different- as different as each client's personality. When we embark on a new design project we draw our inspiration from the personality, lifestyle and tastes of the client. We work from the inside out. Colour, pattern and style are simply expressions of who we are so it makes sense to know a bit more about the client and work from there, otherwise we'd end up with a superficial design that lacks personality. The  family are a Londoncentric couple, expecting their first baby. They wanted a playroom that was both timeless and playful.

 

The task was to transform this unused bedroom into a vibrant, playroom that reflects timeless childhood. The family live in and are passionate about London, with a love for classic children's books. The work involved pulling out fitted-furniture, ripping off old flooring and creating bespoke furniture & furnishings to fit in with the new scheme.

Any guesses who our furry friend happened to be?

 The Butter Dish Dulux walls were inspired by the colour of our book character's fur; iconic British colours of red and blue were used as accents. We reproduced the London skyline in light pencil sketches only. We chose this route because of the vibrant colours already being used, yet it was just enough to act as a background to our wandering bear. Classic London icons- the red bus, black cab and phone booth were strategically placed in the playroom.     Our personalised touch was a passage from mum's favourite childhood book which was crafted into the playroom design by hand writing across the walls.   [caption id="attachment_2905" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Bespoke storage unit: The Baby Cot Shop[/caption] Versatile storage is required where children are concerned. We created a bespoke storage unit to allow flexibility of books and toy storage, which come in all shapes and sizes.
