4 Ways to Have Some ‘Me’ Time at Home

The last few months have been different (to say the least), but as we all stay at home a little more during the summer, here’s how to have some much-needed ‘me’ time and relax in the comfort of your living room…

1. Plan an at-home spa day

Newsflash: spa days can be in your home. So make your ‘me’ time extra zen as you paint your nails, give yourself a facial, put on some relaxing music and run yourself a flower bath (just take a look at Instagram – they’re a thing). You could even dial in your mum squad via video call. Ready, set, spa.

Breastfeeding throughout the day? The Gingham Nursing Pillow from The Baby Cot Shop is the most comforting support during this special bonding time.

2. Take up a new hobby

Nothing says ‘me’ time quite like learning something new - be that a language, skill, sport or reading more about a topic you’re interested in. Some ideas? You could teach yourself Spanish (more people in the world actually speak Spanish than English), learn to knit (super useful for baby items) or take up yoga (there are loads of online tutorials).

We highly recommend the Wingback Rocking Chair from The Baby Cot Shop, which offers a therapeutic gliding motion as you learn.

3. Get creative

You don’t have to be artistic to enjoy getting creative. Did you know that painting (whether it’s Paint by Numbers or a landscape picture on canvas), allows you to release emotions and thoughts, practise visualisation and can improve self-esteem? Don’t fancy painting? You could sketch, draw or make a collage instead.

Want to encourage your little one to get creative too? The Motif Table the perfect environment.

4. Practise mindfulness

What is mindfulness? Well, it’s the ultimate ‘me’ time activity, where you’re completely in the present moment and aware of everything around you. Known to reduce anxiety, stress and encourage maximum relaxation, you can practise mindfulness as much as you please. All you need to do is be alone and start breathing deeply, really engaging your stomach. Take a deep breath through your nose and count from 1- 5 (you should feel your lower stomach expand), then do the same as you exhale. Once you’ve done this for 5 minutes you’ll feel refreshed and energised.

For a distraction like no other (allowing you more mindfulness time), treat them to the Baghera Speedster Dark Red Ride On Car from The Baby Cot Shop, suitable from 1-3 years.
